Born to a lighthouse-keeper on the storm coast, Vesperin studied the night sky at the University of Darg and became the realm’s finest star-reader. When a Nether-fog shrouded the sea during the War of the Empires, trapping a refugee flotilla far from land, Vesperin realized the sky itself could be turned into a beacon. Using an ancient astrolabe and invoking the constellations of Darg’s Crown, he traced a lattice of Light between the stars—an Evening Ward sailors later called Vesperin’s Ladder.

For seven nights, that star-bound ward cut through the black miasma and held a true heading for the ships. At dawn on the seventh, the flotilla made landfall; the ward dimmed, and Vesperin—spent to the last spark—passed with his eyes fixed on the Morning Star. Mariners swore the constellations flickered in salute. In the seasons that followed, Seers confirmed the miracle and canonized him within the Tides & Wayfinding triad. To this day, navigators keep a “Vesperin hour” at dusk to set their course by the first stars, and mystics study his notes on how vows, numbers, and celestial patterns can anchor Aetherial Light.
