The Directian Crown (D) is the official currency of the Empire of Directionland. It was introduced shortly after the Great Unification and gradually replaced the older currency, the Gref, as Imperial institutions expanded and standardized trade, taxation, and salaries across the provinces.

History

Following the Great Unification, the Imperial Crown authorized a single, unified currency to reduce economic friction between provinces that had previously maintained separate mints and local standards. The Directian Crown entered circulation in stages, first appearing in major cities and trade routes before becoming dominant throughout Directionland. Over time, the Gref fell out of common use and is now largely encountered only in older records, collections, and remote local exchanges.

Design

Directian Crowns carry state iconography intended to reinforce the legitimacy of the Empire and the ideals of the Unification.

  • Obverse: the reigning Emperor’s portrait.
  • Reverse: the national motto, "Unity, Wisdom, Mercy", framed by a crown of cherry blossoms.

Denominations

The currency is issued in the following denominations:

  • 1D
  • 5D
  • 10D
  • 50D
  • 100D
  • 500D

Lower denominations are minted as gold coins. Denominations of 50D and higher are no longer issued as coinage and are instead printed as Directian Crown paper bills.

Colloquial use

Because the coinage is gold, Directian Crowns are commonly referred to as "gold" in everyday speech, regardless of denomination.
