About
Fighty, brash, and always willing to speak her mind, Window embodies the many traits of one raised in the eastern frontier. Better known as the former Lady Governor Win of Fort Shagogbot, she was appointed to the role by the Emperor when the outpost was upgraded to a Duchy and held the position for several cycles.

Her family has been in Fort Shagogbot for generations — carving out a foothold in the harsh land since the Fort’s inception. They made their fortune in their holdings of Windownia (Win will sigh if you point out her similar name to it), providing supplies for most of the Fort and surrounding areas, and starting up trade with other neighboring cities in the province. As a result, Win grew up in a comfortable lifestyle, at least for the frontier, but also knows the hardships of farm life and hard work. She obtained ownership of the land after her parents passed from illness when she was a teen.

Despite her sometimes seemingly rough exterior and the iron fist with which she ran the city, Win has a deep love for the people of Shagogbot, often going to great lengths to ensure the city’s safety and prosperity. Win is also known to be generous — sending aid to other cities in Directionland when in need. She has a keen interest in politics, though her emotions can occasionally get in the way.

Win has been a long-time part of the Defenders of Mundus, always willing to step in and help in a fight, having spent a year in the Fort's compulsory military service, where she learned to wield a sword and bow. She’s also friends with her city’s MP, Lukas Battlan, often sending letters back and forth to apprise him of the goings-on in the world.

Notable Traits
<blockquote>
* Often seen surveying Fort Shagogbot from her perch atop the redoubt
* Wields the Shagogbot Savior
* Enjoys baking the Fort’s specialty: Shagogbot cookies

* Once raced the entirety of Ironwood to Fort Shagogbot on horseback to see how long it’d take “for fun"
</blockquote>

Rumors
Some say you can hear Win’s voice crying on the wind when a door is left open anywhere in Directionland: “Close the doors!” She may also be aware of some of Directionland’s previous “pasts.”

A Mundus Reborn
Win spent her time fortifying Fort Shagogbot in preparation for the Dark Energy surge attempting to envelope the world. She also worked with Fort Shagogbot's MP, Lukas, via letters to help assess the world situation. In this time, Win became a Defender of Mundus.

Loopbreaker
Win has joined with the Defenders of Mundus to help break the loops and hopefully end Rathsern's growing hold on the land. Currently, along with the Defenders, and several key characters, she is readying to take a portal back to the War of the Empires in the hopes of finding Saint Ranalia's light-infused bow relic, as well as uncovering information about the Order of the Darkened Flame.

Owned Lands
Win is the owner of Windownia, located west of Fort Shagogbot along the DRR rail line.

Lukas Battlan is a Directian politician and knight from Fort Shagogbot. He serves as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Fort Shagogbot, and is the deputy leader of the New Dawn Coalition, a progressive party seeking a parliamentary majority.

About
Lukas Battlan is not a polished, silver tongued public figure, and he has never tried to be. Raised in Fort Shagogbot and shaped by the grit of frontier life, he is known for blunt honesty, a no nonsense approach to governance, and an uncommonly high tolerance for paperwork and political friction.

Although fiercely supportive of the Empire and the Crown, Lukas is not the type to follow orders blindly. He is known for holding institutions accountable from the inside, including conducting his own investigations when he believes the public is being misled.

Lukas' family originally hails from Simonville, but settled in Fort Shagogbot before his birth. He has retained a strong fondness for libraries since childhood.

Biography
Early life
Lukas was born in Fort Shagogbot to Varinia and Derron Battlan. Varinia worked as a teacher at the local school, while Derron ran a small cobbler's shop in the lower section of the city.

He later gained a younger brother, Eleric, and the two were notably close. Even as a boy, Lukas felt responsible for Eleric's safety, walking him to school and waiting after school to walk him home. As he grew older and eventually moved out, Lukas continued to check in through letters and frequent visits.

During his school years, Lukas performed well academically, in large part due to Varinia's encouragement at home. A formative moment occurred when a visiting MP spoke to his class about the Empire's politics and Fort Shagogbot's governance, an encounter that first sparked Lukas' interest in public service.

Derron often took his sons hunting, teaching them wilderness survival. Lukas remembered those trips as the rare moments when his father seemed truly at peace. Later, Lukas came to understand why. At home, the family struggled financially. Derron's shop brought in too little, and Varinia's pay could not cover the household's needs. Lukas would sometimes lie awake at night, hearing his mother weep while his father tried to comfort her.

Imperial Army and knighthood
At 16, Lukas enrolled in the Imperial Army to secure a military wage and help support his family. Throughout his training, he sent most of his pay back to Fort Shagogbot for Varinia, Derron, and Eleric.

His support materially improved their situation. Derron was able to expand the shop, adding a tailoring section alongside the cobbler's trade. In gratitude, his parents worked together to craft a red cape for Lukas, presented as both a gift and a symbol of thanks.

At 18, Lukas completed his training and was formally knighted, becoming Ser Lukas of Fort Shagogbot. As a young knight he remained politically attentive, following Fort Shagogbot's local council and imperial debates with increasing interest. In practice, his postings kept him away from home, patrolling the Empire's eastern fringes to hunt Netherkind incursions.

When Lukas was 20 and Eleric was 15, Lukas received urgent word from Fort Shagogbot: Eleric had been killed during a raid near the city's walls.

Entry into politics
Eleric's death ended Lukas' military career in practice and spirit. He blamed himself for not being present to protect his brother and withdrew from public life, isolating in a small house just outside Fort Shagogbot proper.

In time, Derron confronted him with the bitter reality that Lukas' patrol routes had never covered the area where the raid occurred. An old zoning law had long restricted military presence there, leaving a blind spot in the city's defenses. Lukas concluded that what had failed Eleric was not only circumstance, but policy.

Lukas entered politics with the explicit goal of changing that policy. At 22, he won election to the gubernatorial council and immediately proposed revisions to Fort Shagogbot's patrol routes and defense coverage. The proposal passed, and the changes were implemented. His visibility and popularity grew, and he eventually secured a seat in the Imperial Parliament as one of Fort Shagogbot's MPs.

A Mundus Reborn
During the political crisis surrounding former Chancellor Nathaniel Crowley's attempted coup, Lukas opposed efforts to strip the Emperor's rights and remove the Crown. After the matter escalated beyond Parliament, Lukas worked to rally support across the realm, coordinating with leaders in cities including Raven's Nest, Evergreen, St. Stylinson, and St. Niam.

In the aftermath, Lukas began investigating the Parliament building to uncover the broader scope of Crowley's plans and identify remaining collaborators. He exchanged information frequently with the Governor, both to keep Fort Shagogbot informed and to ensure the east remained prepared for further instability.

Lukas is known to have delivered an impassioned appeal to the High Raven of Raven's Nest, after which Raven's Nest sent troops to Fort Shagogbot.

Loopbreaker
With Dark Energy incidents escalating across the realm and the Empire under continued strain, Lukas has rejoined the knights to serve Directionland directly once more, balancing military duty with his political role where possible.

Notable Traits
* Blunt and direct, with little patience for political theater
* Former soldier and knight, with frontline experience on the eastern border
* Known for internal investigations and political "watchdog" work
* Cannot cook well, but reliably knows where to find good food while traveling

Favorite Foods
* Rabbit stew
* Shagogbot cookies
* Pumpkin pie

Rumors
Some claim Lukas is the only MP who has walked the entire railway line on foot just to "get a feel for the realm." Others insist he keeps a private file locked in his office containing information even the Crown has not seen.

About
Hiro Myste is a solitary adventurer hailing from the tundra west of the Grelian Sea. Those who spend time around him find him quick to tell a joke or a tale of some far off land. Among friends he is loud and boisterous, but among acquaintances he tends to step back and follow the flow of the conversation rather than join it. When not otherwise engaged, he can often be found gazing off into the distance as if in a trance and needing prodding to snap out of.

Though he carries an axe and is seldom seen without a wolf companion, he lacks the dark hair and brown eyes that are common amongst the disparate tribes of Western Directionland. Despite this he was a driving force in the unification of the tribes and their subsequent petition to join the Empire. For his efforts he was unanimously chosen to be the temporary representative of the fledgling West, a position he outwardly shuns though some would claim he is secretly proud of.

Hiro is often found dabbling in just about everything from construction to farming, mining to potioncraft, smithing to archery. In nearly all his endeavors he has a journeyman's competency though nothing he could truly be said to be excellent in. His eclectic interests lead him to be just as likely to be found in an abandoned mine as he is to be found in the deepest stacks of a library.

Notable Traits
<blockquote>
* Fair blond hair and deep blue eyes
* Small scar through his right upper lip and turquoise tattoos trailing under his eyes
* Describes himself as a wanderer

* Has a fondness for dogs and the color green
</blockquote>

Rumors
Other inhabitants of the West will point out that his temperament and appearance differ from the norm for someone from the West. This coupled with the fact that no one can say they've heard of the Myste tribe lead some to speculate his heritage lies elsewhere.
About
Fighty, brash, and always willing to speak her mind, Window embodies the many traits of one raised in the eastern frontier.

<blockquote>
* Often seen surveying Fort Shagogbot from her perch atop the redoubt
* Wields the Shagogbot Savior
* Enjoys baking the Fort’s specialty: Shagogbot cookies
* Once raced the entirety of Ironwood to Fort Shagogbot on horseback to see how long it’d take “for fun"
</blockquote>

About
The current leader of Kingsvalley. Married to Duchess Magdina and father to Rupert. He hired Gruntia to find a way to enter the Nether to impress the Crown. When the Crown denied this request, he received approval from Nathaniel Crowley to continue the work.

Later upon investigating a strange hole, an eruption of dark energy placed him in an unresponsive state, and left his wife and son missing. His retainer, Groggle, cares for him in secret. Groggle is a Netherkind changed into Munduskind through Light based alchemy, a truth known only to Cedric.

Loopbreaker
After Kingsvalley's fall, Duke Cedric was moved to the Grand Sanctum in St. Stylinson, alongside Groggle and other refugees from the city.

The Empire of Directionland is a constitutional monarchy with a hereditary sovereign, a bicameral legislature, an executive government drawn from Parliament, an independent Supreme Court, and several layers of provincial and local administration. Formally, the executive is styled His Majesty’s Government of Directionland, acting in the name of the Emperor.

The Imperial Crown
The Imperial Crown is the ceremonial head of state. The monarch holds the title Emperor or Empress of Directionland, serves as Commander in Chief of the Imperial Army, and embodies the continuity of the royal bloodline from the old Kingdom of St. Stylinson.

Although the Crown has no direct political power, no bill can become law without royal assent. This requirement is intended as a safeguard against abuses such as attempts to suspend elections or raise unauthorised armies.

The reigning monarch is Alexander XVII of House Durias. His full formal style is:<blockquote>His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Alexander XVII, Emperor of Directionland, Eternal King of St. Stylinson, Gandry, and the Divine Province, Defender of the Faith, and Protector of the Realm.</blockquote>

Council of State and audiences
By convention the Government acts in the monarch’s name. Two regular meetings bind Crown and executive:

* Council of State – Held every Ironday (Friday). The Emperor, the Crown Prince or Princess, the Chancellor, and the Cabinet meet to review the state of the Empire. At this council the Chancellor presents bills that have passed both houses of Parliament for the Emperor’s approval and signature.
* Private audience – Held every Copperday (Sunday). The Emperor and the Chancellor meet alone so that the sovereign can offer advice and the Chancellor can raise concerns in private. This maintains a direct constitutional link between Crown and Government.

Members of the imperial family use the style His/Her Imperial Highness.
The Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Directionland is the highest court of justice and guardian of the constitution. It ensures that the laws of Directionland, and the actions of the Government, conform to the imperial settlement.

The Court does not act on its own initiative. It becomes involved in government matters only when a bill or case is brought before it by a Member of Parliament or a Senator. Its decisions are binding throughout the empire.

The head of the Court holds the title Supreme Justice; the bench is made up of Supreme Judges appointed under imperial law.
The Legislature
Directionland has a bicameral legislature consisting of the Imperial Parliament and the Imperial Senate.

Imperial Parliament
The Imperial Parliament is the lower house and the primary elected chamber. Its members are:

* Members of Parliament (MPs) – Elected from local city councils across the provinces.
* General elections for Parliament are held every four cycles.

The Government is drawn from Parliament. The Chancellor and Cabinet are selected from among the MPs and are responsible for proposing legislation. Parliament debates and votes on these bills; measures that pass are sent to the Senate.

Parliament’s modern chamber is located in Ironwood. During the early imperial period both houses shared the old single-chamber parliament building in St. Stylinson.

Imperial Senate
The Imperial Senate is the upper house, representing the interests of the provinces. Its members are:

* Province Premiers and their Vice Premiers, who sit ex officio as Senators.

When a bill has been approved by Parliament, it proceeds to the Senate for further debate and a final vote. If the Senate passes the bill, it is sent to the Crown for royal assent. Senators may also petition the Supreme Court to review legislation or government action.

The Senate’s chamber is located in St. Stylinson, separated from the lower house in Ironwood to reduce direct interference between the two chambers.
The Government (Executive)
The Government of Directionland is the executive branch, formally styled His Majesty’s Government of Directionland. It is responsible for the administration of the empire, national policy, and the day-to-day running of the state.

* Chancellor – Head of government and chair of the Cabinet.
* Ministers – Members of the Cabinet responsible for specific departments.

The Government is formed from the majority party or coalition in Parliament. The Emperor formally approves the appointment of the Chancellor, but governance remains parliamentary in character. The Government introduces most bills in Parliament and steers them through the legislative process to the Senate and then to the Crown for assent.

Key departments include, among others, the Ministry of Defense (which oversees the Imperial Army, Royal Guard, and other armed forces) and ministries responsible for finance, infrastructure, justice, and external affairs.
Provincial governance
Provinces and Province Premiers
Directionland is divided into Imperial Provinces, which are administrative regions covering the entire empire. Each province is governed by a Province Council led by an elected Province Premier.

Province Premiers and their Vice Premiers:

* Oversee provincial administration and policy.
* Sit as Senators in the Imperial Senate, giving the provinces direct representation at the national level.

Members of the Province Council are styled Members of Province Council (MPCs). Premiers and Vice Premiers are addressed as Lord or Lady Premier and Lord or Lady Vice Premier.
Regional and colonial administrations
Governors and gubernatorial cities
Some settlements hold extended powers for historical or practical reasons and are designated Gubernatorial Cities. In these settlements, a Governor acts as the Crown’s representative.

A Governor:

* Holds executive power over the settlement.
* May command armies within the region without seeking prior approval from High Command, provided those forces remain within the settlement’s territory.
* Oversees a Gubernatorial Council; elections for the council are called at the Governor’s discretion.

Examples of gubernatorial cities include Fort Shagogbot, St. Niam, and St. Stylinson. Governors are styled Lord or Lady Governor; Councillors are Members of Gubernatorial Council (MGCs).

Viceroys and colonial governments
A Viceroy is the Crown’s representative governing a colony or outpost. Viceroys hold powers similar to those of a Governor, but:

* They are appointed by the Imperial Crown, not elected.
* Colonial and outpost governments do not hold elections.

Such governments are considered temporary, founded with the expectation that colonies will one day be integrated as full imperial settlements. A viceroy is styled Lord or Lady Viceroy.
Municipal governance
Mayors and city councils
When Directionland was formed, the old hereditary aristocracy in most settlements was abolished. The title Mayor replaced former noble ranks in the majority of cities, even where the word “Duchy” is still used informally.

* The Mayor is the lowest level executive official, governing a city together with its City Council.
* Mayors are elected every six cycles.
* City Council Members (CCMs) are elected every five cycles.
* Any CCM may stand for election as an MP, providing a direct link between local government and the Imperial Parliament.

A Mayor cannot raise armies, and all major decisions must be approved by the City Council. The office holder is styled Lord or Lady Mayor.

Special civic titles
A small number of cities retain unique traditional titles for their civic leaders, while functioning much like ordinary mayoralties.

* Kingsvalley – The council leader is styled Duke or Duchess. The title is non-hereditary and the Duke or Duchess is elected every six cycles, ensuring a regular turnover of leadership.
* Raven's Nest– The council leader is known as the High Raven, formally styled Raven Most High.

These roles carry the same practical responsibilities as a mayor, but preserve historic styles that predate the unification.

The Government of Directionland (the Executive) is the cabinet drawn from the Imperial Parliament that directs national policy and administers the empire. Led by the Chancellor, the Government proposes legislation to Parliament; measures that pass proceed to the Imperial Senate for a final vote and then require royal assent from the Imperial Crown to become law. The Supreme Court may review matters only when brought by a Member of Parliament or a Senator.

Constitutional basis
The executive framework dates to the Great Unification (c. 450 cycles ago), when Directionland reorganized into a bicameral system and retitled the head of government from Prime Minister to Chancellor. From inception, bills followed a fixed path: Parliament → Senate → Crown (assent).

Formation and tenure
* Elections: General elections are held every 4 cycles by mixed system (constituency + party list) to elect the Imperial Parliament.
* Appointment: The majority party or governing coalition in Parliament elects the Chancellor; the Crown formally approves the appointment, but does not intervene in governance.
* Confidence: The Government holds office so long as it retains parliamentary confidence; coalitions form when no party secures a majority.

Composition
* Chancellor — head of government; chairs cabinet; leads the legislative and policy program.
* Ministers (Cabinet) — oversee executive departments and introduce government bills in Parliament. (Titles and portfolios vary by session; ministers are seated MPs.)

Powers and responsibilities
* Legislation & policy: Drafting the government program and introducing bills in Parliament; stewarding measures through the legislative path to Senate and royal assent.
* Administration: Directing the civil service and executing laws once enacted. (Operational details are documented across institutional summaries.)
* Budget & elections context: Governing agendas are shaped by party platforms and coalition agreements in the run-up to and aftermath of general elections.

Accountability and checks
* Bicameral check: The Senate provides provincial scrutiny and delivers the final vote on bills passed by Parliament before Crown assent.
* Judicial review: The Supreme Court is the highest court; it acts only when an MP or Senator brings a bill or case before it.
* Crown safeguard: The Crown is non-political yet withholds or grants royal assent as a constitutional backstop.

Intergovernmental relations
* Provinces: Provincial Premiers sit in the Senate (with provincial structures ensuring territorial representation); the Government coordinates nationwide policy with provincial authorities through the bicameral process.
* Municipalities & special administrations: Day-to-day delivery often involves elected city councils and mayors; certain cities and colonial territories operate under special charters (e.g., gubernatorial or viceroyal administration) noted in institutional summaries.

Historical notes
* Great Unification settlement: Established the Chancellorship, the bicameral legislature, and the Parliament→Senate→Crown pathway; the houses were later physically separated (Parliament in Ironwood, Senate in St. Stylinson) to prevent inter-house interference.
* Crisis precedent: A recent constitutional crisis under Chancellor Crowley illustrated the system’s checks: despite a narrow parliamentary maneuver for extraordinary powers and a move against the Crown, ultimate constitutional change required Senate concurrence and remained subject to assent and judicial scrutiny.

* Raven’s Nest – The council leader is known as the High Raven, formally styled Raven Most High.

These roles carry the same practical responsibilities as a mayor, but preserve historic styles that predate the unification.

The Election System of Directionland
Directionland operates as a constitutional democracy with an imperial structure, where the Emperor holds a largely ceremonial role, while the Chancellor—elected by the ruling party—serves as the head of government.

Election Process
* General Elections are held every 4 cycles.
* All citizens aged 18 cycles and above are eligible to vote.
* The Imperial Parliament of Directionland (lower house) is elected proportionally, with seats allocated based on party votes.
* The Imperial Senate of Directionland (upper house) consists of appointed Provincial Premiers (one per province) and elected representatives from the major cities.
* The Chancellor is elected by the majority party or a ruling coalition in the Parliament.

Political System & Governance
* Parliamentary Democracy: The party (or coalition) with the most seats in the Parliament elects the Chancellor.
* Coalition Governments: If no single party wins a majority, parties must form coalitions to reach a governing majority.
* The Imperial Crown of Directionland (Emperor) must formally approve the Chancellor’s appointment but does not interfere in governance.

Voting System
* Mixed Voting System:
** Direct Voting for MPs: Citizens vote for representatives in their local constituencies.
** Party List System: Citizens also cast a vote for a party, which helps determine the overall distribution of seats.
* No Direct Chancellor Election: Unlike some democracies, the Chancellor is not elected directly by the people but rather by Parliament.

Key Election Issues in 130 AoP
* The Future of the Crown: Should the monarchy remain or be abolished?
* Security & Military Policy: How to respond to rising Dark Energy threats?
* Economic Stability: Preventing a looming recession amid political instability.

This election is a defining moment for Directionland, as the Empire faces political realignments, external threats, and economic crises all at once.

The Major Political Parties of Directionland’s Parliament
The Imperial Stability Party (ISP) – Crowley’s Party
Slogan: For Empire, Order, and Continuity

Ideology: Traditionalism, Imperial Authority, Stability First

Position: Conservative

Stance on the Crown: Abolitionist / Disloyal / Open Contempt

The Imperial Stability Party (ISP) is the most traditionalist party in Directionland. It advocates for a strong centralized government, imperial expansion, and strict social order. Historically, the party has been aligned with monarchists and military leaders, arguing that Directionland's strength comes from its long-standing traditions and its unified structure. However, over time, Crowley’s influence has changed the party’s stance on the Crown significantly, and the party is now openly disloyal to the Crown, wanting to abolish the office of Emperor and replace it with the office of a “Grand Chancellor” who appoints their successors.

* Supports:
** Strong executive power (prefers an authoritarian Chancellor).

The Directionland Union Party (DUP) is the largest centrist party, favoring a balanced approach to governance. It supports moderate reform, pragmatic economic policies, and a strong but accountable government. The DUP is often seen as the "party of stability", attracting both moderates and imperial reformists who reject Crowley's authoritarianism but also fear radical change.

* Supports:
** Limited decentralization (giving more power to local governments but keeping the Empire united).
** Mixed-market economy (some government intervention but overall pro-business).
** Strengthening democracy (but keeping the monarchy as a symbolic power).
* Current Status: Likely to win the election, as it represents the "reasonable alternative" to Crowley’s failed government. However, it faces challenges from liberals who want faster change and imperial loyalists who see them as weak.
The New Dawn Coalition (NDC) is the most progressive party, advocating for democratic reform, expanded civil rights, and a complete overhaul of Directionland’s government. However, many still view them as too radical, and they struggle to convince older generations that rapid reform won't destabilize the Empire.
Political Intrigue: The General Election of Crisis
The upcoming election is not just a battle for power—it is a battle for the survival of the Imperial Union itself. Crowley’s betrayal still looms over the political landscape, the Imperial Family remains missing, and the last known survivor, Prince Ethian, is ravaged by Darkblight. Rising Dark Energy levels, most recently manifesting in the attack on Fort Shagogbot, serve as grim reminders that Directionland must remain united—or risk annihilation. Meanwhile, economic instability threatens to shake the Empire to its core, as trade routes falter and merchants warn of a coming recession.

This election is more than political—it is existential.
----

1. The Fate of the Crown: A Divided Left
Crowley’s Betrayal Fractured the Political Spectrum
While the Imperial Stability Party (ISP) remains vehemently anti-monarchy, calling for the arrest of Prince Ethian and the abolition of the Crown, they find themselves isolated. Previously, left-leaning factions were indifferent or mildly supportive of reducing the monarchy’s influence, but Crowley’s betrayal forced a realignment—one that has placed unexpected allies on the same side of the chessboard.

* The New Dawn Coalition (NDC) has pivoted to an even stronger pro-monarchy stance, seeing the Crown as a symbol of stability in a time of chaos.
* The Directionland Union Party (DUP) remains steadfast in preserving the monarchy, gaining newfound support from voters who might have otherwise leaned conservative.
* The People’s Vanguard (PV), despite their usual stance against aristocratic power, has been oddly vocal about their support for the Imperial Crown.

❖ Power Play: The ISP is now backed into a corner. If they cannot find coalition partners, they will lose the election outright. However, if they can strike a deal with one of the lesser parties, they may still secure enough leverage to remain a political force.
----

2. The Shadow of the Netherkind
The Battle at Fort Shagogbot Changed Everything
The Netherkind invasion at Fort Shagogbot served as a wake-up call for all of Directionland’s political factions. The rising levels of Dark Energy are no longer theoretical concerns—they are an imminent and deadly reality. Some parties see unity as the only way forward, while others are using the attack as a political tool to push their own agendas.

* The DUP and NDC argue that the Empire must rally together, securing its borders and alliances rather than fighting amongst itself.
* The ISP and Imperial Dawn Party (IDP) claim that Directionland needs a stronger, more aggressive response, pushing for war powers and emergency measures.
* The Free Trade League (FTL) fears that further instability will ruin economic recovery, advocating for security through diplomacy rather than war.

❖ Power Play: The IDP sees an opportunity to align with the ISP, forming a hardline faction that demands military action over diplomacy. Meanwhile, the DUP and NDC are working to unite moderates under a single pro-stability coalition.
----

3. The Economy: The Merchant Guild Sounds the Alarm
"A Recession Looms If Stability Is Not Restored"
The Wolfwater Merchant Guild has issued a dire warning: if political instability continues, trade will collapse, and a major economic downturn will follow. Merchant leaders pressure the candidates, making it clear that whoever wins the election must restore stability—immediately.

* The Free Trade League (FTL) is pushing hard for deregulation, arguing that free markets and open borders will encourage economic growth.
* The People’s Vanguard (PV) rejects this, insisting that wealth redistribution and worker protections are more important than catering to merchants.
* The DUP and NDC advocate for a balance, ensuring that stability and security come first before focusing on economic reform.

❖ Power Play: The FTL is caught in a difficult position—they cannot ally with the hard-right ISP/IDP coalition, but they also don’t fully align with the DUP/NDC bloc. Their best bet is to extract key economic concessions in exchange for backing a larger party.
----

Possible Election Outcomes
With the stakes higher than ever, Directionland’s future depends on how alliances shift and who makes the right power plays.

# A Grand Coalition for Stability (DUP/NDC/FTL) → Likely the best chance for peace, but requires compromises on economic and social policies.
# A Hardline Military Rule (ISP/IDP) → Would result in crackdowns, military expansion, and potential imperial overreach.
# A Weak Split Government → If no party wins decisively, Directionland could descend into further instability.
The citizens don't directly follow the Aetherian Faith. Instead they venerate spirits that embody the land, notable landmarks, and settlements. If these spirits are notable enough they are sometimes given proper names or a physical form, such as the chicken in the village of Roost. The citizens of Western Directionland believe the gods of the Aetherian Faith are spirits of the highest level.

History
St. Niam was originally an independent duchy before the unification of the Directionland Empire. St. Niam was relatively poor at the time, but offered what they could to ensure the Empire could be established. St. Niam was known for its vast vegetable fields, growing carrots and potatoes. Most of the farmland was unfortunately lost in the Great Fire of Niam 140 cycles ago, but their past is still reflected in their coat of arms, which features a potato plant.

During the War of the Empires, Imperial Engineers from St. Niam constructed the TNT Trebuchet, a revolutionary siege weapon.
